When you are just starting out on your spiritual awakening journey, it is not uncommon to find yourself in a lost and confused place. You might find yourself having a hard time trying to figure out where to begin as you embark on this new journey. So I've outlined, the first few steps to take when you are new to this spiritual awakening journey.
Affirmative Prayer, is a prayer technique that centers the mind on the desired positive outcome instead on the present situation or negative circumstance. It operates by aligning your thoughts with what you desire through the process of creative visualization in which you become a co-creator with the divine.
All sacred texts express our human interpretation of that which we refer to as a higher power, highest consciousness, God, Source or The Universe. There is truth hidden within all sacred text. No matter what sacred text you choose to read you can learn about the nature of the Divine from it and, how our relationship to what we define as God has evolved throughout time.
It draws our attention towards formulating healthy habits for successful living. For example, you might decide you want to start your day with prayer. For this reason, planning to go to bed on time so that you are able to wake up earlier each day and pray may result in feeling better rested. Engaging in spiritual practice is often times a keystone habit which can lead to many positive outcome because it turns our attention and awareness to other areas of our lives that needs improvement.
This year I've decided before I can fully doubt the words of the Bible, I have to fully study it. So I picked it up again. This time when I read it, I gained a newfound meaning for spirituality and the purpose of the Bible. It is as if I am now seeing God through a new lens. This new lens has made it easier for me to read the Bible again.
Well, being skeptical about Christianity doesn't necessarily mean you doubt the existence of God. Maybe you just aren't quite sold on the idea of Creationism because of the overwhelming evidence and hard science that backs evolution. Maybe you believe Jesus existed but aren't quite sure about his whole resurrection story. Or maybe you you’re not certain about the omnipotence of God.
As a young girl I was taught to revere God. To believe in God with an unwavering faith. To never question a word of the Holy Bible. To perform the necessary actions to feel the warm embrace from the divine Father. So with devotion, I studied the scripture, sang hymns and whispered daily prayers. In church my ears would soak up every utterance from the preacher’s mouth, waiting for the moment of God’s sweet presence to sweep over me.
From childhood, I was taught the principles of Christianity and I firmly believed them. As I was told to do, I always studied to show myself approved (2 Timothy 2:15). So, as a teen I spent many weekends curled up in bed with notebooks, pens, highlighters, a study Bible and concordance. Yes, my personal Bible study was intense! I was desperate to know more about God. I had questions that needed to be answered, so I scoured the scriptures for them. I needed to know more about God? His plans for this world? His plans for my life? What is the purpose of life?
